A smart bus takes kids to school. Along the way, we learn about bus safety and traffic rules in general. The story tackles a lot and feels disjointed as a result. Some of the scenes are really fun, though, like when the bus goes downhill.

I've loved the others in this series, but just couldn't relate to this one. The anthropomorphized bus creeped me out, and the children's names seemed to belong to another era. This just fell flat and was a disappointment.

This series has run it's course.

This is the ninth book that the McMullans have written about anthropomorphic vehicles starting with a rambunctious dump truck in I Stink!. This time, a smiling school bus announces that it, “Takes BRAINS to do my job – drive you to SCHOOL and keep you SAFE!” The cheery bus shows young people how it drives the same route each day, stops traffic, picks up riders at their bus stops, then transports them to school. Interaction is encouraged when readers are invited to count the stops along the route, imitate going over a bump in the road, and finally to participate in the survey the quick-thinking bus driver yells out to quiet restless riders at a construction site, “Who had CEREAL for breakfast? Who has a DOG? Who has a SNAKE?” In the most exciting scene, a silver car fails to stop for the bus, and the cops show up to give the driver a ticket.

This is the perfect book for children who are in that phase of loving trucks and buses. This story had me at the first page which reads, "Who am I? Smarter than a Rocket Scientist, more powerful than a monster truck, able to halt traffic with the flick of a switch?" This, of course, describes a school bus. This is a welcome addition to the Kate and Jim McMullan franchise, that includes "I Stink" (garbage trucks) and "I'm Brave" (fire trucks). The illustrations are bright and filled with movement. There are opportunities to count the students...stops...and just good fun for lovers of vehicles.

One of a series, I'm Smart! is a fun book for young readers. The series introduces children to different trucks/vehicles.I'm Smart! tells the reader all about being able to stop traffic to keep its riders safe, about the stops it makes along the way to take the children to school. The great illustrations show what the vehicle is and what it has to do from its first stop to its destination.

I selected this book based on the title. I thought it was going to have a growth mindset theme, but it didn't...so I was a bit disappointed. However, what it did offer was a personified story about a school bus, with lots of cheer and joy with their job. With all of the onomatopoeia and colorful artwork, it makes for a great preK/K book, especially at the start of the year.

The book was not that interesting to me. I thought i would enjoy this book by the cover and the title, but i did not. One thing it did offer was a good story on a school bus and well graphics to go with the story. I feel like a child who likes cars or buses would enjoy reading this book. This is just not a story or book for me. I was not interested in it very much.

Simply doesn't have the charm of I Stink. There are a diverse group of kids riding the bus but probably not the best book to use if getting kids ready to ride the school bus for the first time. From fold and gathered advanced reader copy.

This clever picture book would be good to share with young children at the beginning of the school year, especially those that will be riding a school bus. This book would provide a good opportunity to discuss the safety rules of a bus.

I had high hopes for this titles but it proved to be a real disappointment. It seemed very disjointed and there wasn't really a true story that young children would enjoy. A shame - it could have been much more engaging.

A trip to school narrated by the school bus himself.

A vehicle is picking up children in the morning and cruising through town. What type of vehicle could it be? Playful and fast paced. Toddle ran dup. Loved the keep them distracted methods.

An inventive way to introduce kids to their school bus.

Just fair. The illustrations weren't great and the story while appropriate, wasn't attention grabbing. I'll skip buying this for the school library, I think.

A little awkward as a read aloud, but good for preparing young kids for the school bus.

Cute story especially for kids who are nervous about taking the bus for the first time.

An okay story of a school bus picking up and dropping off kids to and from school. Lacks the charm of the earlier stories (I'm Dirty, I'm Smelly) by the McMullans.Illustrations are ok.

January 2018 - instant hit with Ben. Not quite on par with I'm Dirty and I Stink, but we've read it over and over.
