“When I was seventeen, I was... taken.”3.5 RATING- As a lover of Cynthia Eden's contemporary titles, it's shocking to me this is the first book I've read in the Shadow Agents series. I think I've shied away from reading the series for a couple different reasons. Harlequinn just seems a bit old-fashioned to me. Perhaps it's the covers that give off the vintage feel. They just don't appeal to me and make me feel like the books won't be steamy or are just...old. I know that seems silly, but that's the way they make me feel. Also, I'm cheap. I've never seen one of these books on sale and they aren't lendable. Both of those things are turn-offs for me and probably delayed me trying out the series. One note:I normally wouldn't think of starting a series with book eight. I like to read my series books in order. But I was suffering from a book funk, needed something immediate, and the amnesia aspect of the story was too hard to resist. So how did I like it? I liked it. I didn't love it. I enjoyed the storyline a great deal. Amnesia? Serial killer? Trademark Eden hero? Yes! Yes! Yes! “What do you want from me?” Noelle asked him and she held her breath as she waited for his response. At his sides, Thomas’s hands balled into fists. “I’m a desperate man. I’ve been that way... too long.” His gaze held hers. “I want whatever you’ll give me.”Cynthia Eden always writes a great hero and Thomas was no exception. He was a man devoted which is my favorite type of hero! Still, I kept thinking something was missing or that it dragged in a couple spots. It might be that there were just too many secrets. As soon as one thing was uncovered, another plot twist or question was introduced. It may have been the steam factor. I'm sure the steam factor was quite typical for a Harlequinn novel (and there were some sexy bits). Still, I'd consider the steam low for what I want from Cynthia Eden! I like my romantic suspense pretty hot and this was on the tamer side for me.Overall, I'm glad I finally gave this series a shot. It is a bummer that the publisher doesn't discount these books often and my local library doesn't have them in ebook but I will eventually get around to reading them.

I just love this series! All the books follow the same basic formula, but that doesn't really bother me because I happen to like that formula. If it ain't broken, why fix it? ;)

Contemporary, Romantic SuspenseAlaska Noelle Evers was kidnapped fifteen years ago. After two days her abductor was dead and she was left with no memory of what actually happened. Now she is an FBI profiler and she uses her past to get into the minds of killers. The one that she can’t seem to read is her new partner. Thomas Anthony is an EOD agent that is controlled, dangerous and hauntingly familiar. Thomas has been covertly watching Noelle’s back for a very long time. He wanted to tell her the truth but to do that would have compromised his mission and blown his cover. With their latest mission a link to her past has been revealed. Now is the time for Thomas to step out of the shadows especially with the desire that is between them and a predator that is hunting Noelle. If he doesn’t he is going to lose the second chance he has to save the only woman he has ever loved. This is a great addition to a series that is proving to be very addictive. The characters are well written and they bring the story to life for the reader. It is also a nice way to revisit a world that is full of action and suspense. This is fast proving to be a series for the keeper shelves. While the stories can be read as standalone books they are much better as a whole when the full series is read. The story also takes some great twists and turns and will have readers wondering just what could possibly happen next and they won’t be disappointed with the next twist that comes at them.

This is the first book I've read of this series and really enjoyed it. The author does a great job of tying in a mystery from the past into the events of the present with a believable and intense love story underneath. It was good combination of suspense and romance.

Another great story in the EOD series. A bit cheesy at times but apparently cheesiness works on the ever brooding Thomas.

I think I might have fallen in love with Thomas, just a little bit. Professional killer, sweet as candy (at least he's sweet to Noelle). Wish the author would have written more scenes of him being a badass though, instead we only get the one where he breaks the bad guy's nose (yessss, that was awesome!). He's has this badass reputation and his nickname is DRAGON. I think we deserved more badass Thomas Anthony.

Noelle is an FBI profiler currently working with the EOD. Noelle was kidnapped as a teenager and was rescued 2 days later. She has no memory of events while she was held captive. Thomas is an EOD agent currently assigned to the same operation as Noelle. While they are working together, Noelle and Thomas find themselves attracted to one another.

I REALLY don't like puppetmaster/Mercer. He sure loves matchmaking but hurting people instead to get them together.

This wasn't my favorite but it wasn't the most boring either. It just didn't hold my attention, the story or the characters. I didn't feel any chemistry between Thomas and Noelle. They were very bland to me and I needed more from them to start caring. Thomas was too difficult for me to understand. His personality was too dark without anything to back it up and therefore unreachable for me to sympathize for him. Maybe if the author had gone into more detail about how he grew up and past experiences on why he was the way he was. He portrayed an intimidating emotionless loner and gave off bad vibes warning Noelle away from him at every turn. That showed me he was cowardly instead of just manning up and confessing to knowing her before the EOD. He treated her coldly and like an outsider yet was surprised to discover that she was intimidated and slightly afraid of him. His behaviors and treatment of her made no sense to me. She never suspected him of being connected to her abduction, he knew that, so his orders were never in jeopardy of being compromised. How did he also expect to ever make any progress with her if he was always shunning and insulting her? It just seemed pointless to push her away when she wasn't pushing for anything to do with him. Sure, she was observing him, because it was her job for one thing, but she was never going to put it together that he was connected to her past. She had years upon years to do that but it never happened. He was just too complicated for me to like without knowing him better than what we got. Noelle was a jump back to the dumb heroine. It's funny that she was the only girl who survived her abduction, because in all honesty to me she had NO survivor skills at all. She belongs behind a desk and doing what she does best, profiling, preferably behind the glass. She has no business being out in the field, she's a burden, extra baggage on a trained agent. She slows them down and gets herself put in bad situations because she can't think on her feet and use her head. She's a nice girl but weak in character. She got lucky that Thomas was there that day. He saved her otherwise she'd be dead and I don't think she realized that. I get her being mad if he deliberately lied to her for selfish reasons but he was doing his job and was ordered to keep his mouth shut by the boss not only for the safety of the other agents but so their cover wasn't blown in taking out terrorists. She made stupid choices akin to Cassidy from book four, that got herself and Thomas almost killed. Noelle was just too much like a little girl playing dress up. I didn't hate her but I didn't like her either, she was just there, and kind of in the way.I didn't like the last couple of chapters of the book because it felt like there was so much action going on all at once. I had to actually go back and reread certain parts to figure out what I missed. It all jumbled together and confused me. The ending was ok but felt a little overdramatic for my liking. I didn't care for Thomas and Noelle that much so I was more relieved to be done with it and that it was finally over more than anything. I won't be reading this again, this was my second most disliked of the series and felt like it took forever to get through. I'm glad that I'm done with this series most of all. I didn't care for most of them considering I only liked and cared for Gunner, Cale, Dylan and Rachel out of the entire series but it was worth reading if you can borrow them or get them really cheap.

Fantastic conclusion to the Guts and Glory quartet. Noelle is an FBI profiler who is currently working for the EOD. The victim of a violent crime herself, she has found a true calling in helping catch killers. Currently she's been assigned to work with Thomas, investigating a man suspected of ordering the bombing of the EOD building (see Evidence of Passion). Something about Thomas bothers her. He's one of the few people she's never been able to read. He has an amazing amount of control over his emotions. In spite of the dangerous vibes she gets from him, she always feels safe around him, something that rarely happens with anyone else. And she frequently gets the feeling she knows him from somewhere else, but she can't be sure.Years before, Thomas had stumbled on Noelle while he was working on another mission. While he was involved in her rescue, he couldn't stick around because it would break his cover. But there was something about that seventeen year old girl that made an impression on a man with far too much violence in his life. After that he made it his business to check up on her frequently, making sure she was alright. He always stayed in the background, never making contact with her. Now that they're working together, he really wants to tell her the truth.I loved the connection between Noelle and Thomas. They tried to fight their attraction at first because of working together, but it was just too hard to resist. Thomas had been falling for Noelle for years, ever since the day he helped rescue her, but had never realized what he was feeling. Because of all the things he's had to do over the years he feels that she could never love him. Noelle's is a survivor. She was determined that her ordeal would not keep her from having a normal life, but it has caused her to be very wary of men. Except for Thomas. And as she gets closer to him while they are working their case, he is there for her when danger threatens. When her memories start to come back she insists that Thomas tell her the whole truth. After she gets over the shock, that connection with him stays strong. I love how she overcomes his concerns about his past at the end and shines light into his darkness. The suspense of the story was gripping. The investigation into the senator, who was suspected of being involved in the bombing, revealed an unexpected connection to Noelle's kidnapping. Now there's a killer stalking Noelle and leaving a trail of bodies behind him and he does so. Thomas and Noelle are in a race to figure out who he is and stop him before he can get to Noelle. There are several times when it could go either way and I was constantly on the edge of my seat. There were several twists and turns to keep me guessing right to the very end.

Just Nikki here telling you that we’ve got yet another winner from Cynthia Eden…I know, I know, you must get tired of me saying how much I love every single book she writes. I’m sorry, I really am….but…wait, nope, not sorry….THIS BOOK WAS AWESOME! I have loved the Shadow Agents series since book one and even at book eight I’m still enjoying them.Thomas, nick named the dragon, has never allowed himself the luxury of thinking past his assignments. He’s deadly, eerily quiet and full of emotions that never surface. Years ago he saved a young girl who touched him in ways he was unaccustomed to and he’s kept an eye on her from the shadows ever since. Now that young girl is a woman and Thomas has to work with her even though she has no idea who he truly is.Being a kidnap victim gives Noelle a certain insight to how killers minds work. When a serial killer reemerges with a familiar MO, Noelle is partnered with Thomas to track him down. Being alone with Thomas makes Noelle nervous simply because of the way he watches her as if he knows exactly what she’s thinking. His familiar presence sets her instincts on alert and his body warms her in all the right places. With a killer moving in set on finishing the job with Noelle, Thomas is going to have to bare all his secrets if he has any chance of keeping her where she belongs. With him.LOVED! Way of the Shadows gives readers taunt sexual tension mixed expertly with pulse pounding action! I loved how effective the sexual tension felt throughout this one making me sigh in contentment by the end. Being a Harlequin meant less sex, yet Eden made me feel content without it. I felt the connection between Noelle and Thomas regardless. I especially loved the fact that Thomas had been watching Noelle from afar for years just making sure she continued to be safe after her abduction as a teen. Sure, that sounds a bit stalkery but, no worries, it works. Trust me. Noelle’s ability to get into the minds of the killers worked perfectly with her courage to step into the action (much to Thomas’ dismay). This is a woman who isn’t afraid to be both smart and able.Continuing the series story ARC there is plenty of bad guy goodness that ties all the books together. Plus, we get to revisit past characters which I always adore AND learn more about the head of the EOD. I really wish he’d get his own story…sigh. He’s so good at playing matchmaker yet he’s got this sadness to him that I wish he could heal from.Strikingly all consuming, Eden’s an author who will in-trance your mind and spark your imagination!I give Way of the Shadows by Cynthia Eden 4.50 stars!

Way of the Shadows was written to entertain the reader. The author does a great job keeping you entertained. This book is a fiction book packed with action and romance. Way of the Shadow has many strengths; it has a wonderful plot. I couldn't find any weaknesses with this book. A young girl Noelle Evers was abducted when she was seventeen. Noelle cant remember any details about her abduction though. She grows up and becomes a FBI agent. The EOD (a secret organization) hires her to help them on a case in Alaska. Her new partner Thomas Anthony cant stand to be around her, but not for the reason you think. Thomas is in love with her and wants desperately to protect her. When they get to Alaska they go see the senator. After there visit with the senator the two of them are ran off the road by a truck and repeatedly hit. The guy in the truck kept hitting them until their car went off a bridge and hit a frozen lake. Thomas is good at surviving and got him and Noelle to safety right before the car went off. When the sheriff found them they went to see the senator and found him dead. As the investigation got deeper they realized the man in the truck is the guy that abducted Noelle. When they finally catch the man Thomas asked Noelle to marry him; she said yes. "His heart ached, and that wasn't due to the wound. 'I'd die to keep you safe.' A tear spilled from her eye and slid down her check. 'you almost did. How about you don't ever, ever do that again?' He wouldn't make any promises. When it came to Noelle, he'd do anything if it meant she was alive and happy." (Eden, 207)

I must confess I got the characters in this novel a bit confused with another series involving Noelle which threw me at first.Otherwise vintage Eden Shadow Agents stuff, tortured hero who has killed far too often, tortured heroine with a past she literally can't recall, secrets that bind them and could split them apart.Noelle and Dragon are trying to confirm whether the Senator was behind the bombing of EOD but things quickly escalate out of control when it is discovered that Noelle's abduction as a child was not an isolated incident, but the work of a serial killer. Soon they are trying to discover the killer's identity whilst saving his victims. In this book Eden avoids some of the angsty "she's too good for me, I must leave her for her own good" which gets really tired. Whilst I might question the wisdom of having sex in an abandoned cabin in the middle of nowhere immediately after being almost killed by a serial killer, it was refreshing that Noelle and Thomas are upfront about their desire for each other and don't play games.FYI, the Kindle version has a cast of characters bit at the beginning which was a spoiler (for me) and totally unnecessary - avoid is my advice.

This book was another good edition to Cynthia Eden's Shadow Agents series. Was it my favorite? No, but I really liked it and was very interested the whole way through. The storyline follows some slightly new characters to the series, Noelle Evers and Thomas Anthony, as they uncover who is behind the recent domestic terroist attack on their agency. Their investigation eventually leads them to people connected to the mysterious kidnapping in Noelle's past. The action is almost non-stop, which I loved, and Noelle and Thomas fall in love during their time together. I just love the way that Cynthia Eden writes romance because it's real and the characters always get their happy ending. My only problem with this book was that it was a little too similar to another of Cynthia's books, Deadly Fear. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in romantic suspense.

Sheriff Hodges, who came to Camden to work and live in a slower paced community, was woefully unprepared for the events that unfolded when Noelle Evers arrived in town. Fifteen years ago, she was kidnapped and left, with her dead abductor, by the EOD agent now protecting her. Transformed from a scared teen into the FBI profiler she became, she is teamed up with EOD agent Thomas Anthony to find the killer responsible for reeking terror on the sheriff’s little town. We get glimpses into agent Anthony’s disturbed past as he works to help Noelle piece together those missing days of her past, and to keep them alive at the same time. This is the first book I've read of this author and thoroughly enjoyed the plot twists. One part that was a bit over the top was when Noelle almost drowned in the icy waters, and Thomas saved the day. Otherwise, I thought it was a well-written book and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

Thomas Anthony has carried a candle for a kidnapped teenager ever since he accidentally played a part in her rescue 15 years ago, keeping tabs on her like a silent protector that he isn't. Only that her recruitment into the EOD - and as his partner on a case - makes that distance impossible to keep. There are many twists and turns in the plot (and a loose continuation of the general narrative in the whole Shadow Agents series) but I'm glad to see that Cynthia Eden treads (and doesn't cross) the fine line that separates stalker and protector here. Thomas and Noelle do make a very compelling couple but I wished I'd seen more of Thomas's past revealed.

My new favorite in the Shadow Agents booksI can't believe this is the last one *weeps* I really loved those books. Thomas blew my mind , his character was so complex and absolutely delicious ... now I feel bad for slaying dragons in my games *giggles* Noelle's story was extremely interesting and scary , I found myself hungrily reading this book because I was dying to know what happens next and what happened in the past. The book had me guessing a couple of times and I'm glad to say that things don't unfold predictably. Overall I want my own dragon !!

In Eden’s romantic suspense novel, FBI profiler Noelle Evers was kidnapped fifteen years ago and has no memory of the details. She now uses her past to help read others. Except her new partner EOD agent Thomas Anthony who seems so familiar. Thomas has been watching her back in secret and now a new lead has just been linked to her kidnapping so many years ago. Together they will face the passion growing between them and pursue the predator as he moves closer.A fast-paced addition to the Shadow Agents: Guts and Glory series.

I really loved this one; I think its my favorite in the series. From the very first time 'Dragon' bumped into Noelle three books ago I was waiting for his story and it definitely delivers. Fun and dangerous with lots of twists and turns. One of the things that I loved most about this series is that the women help contribute to the defeat of their enemies and Noelle was no different. I thought that Thomas and Noelle were well matched and I enjoyed their story. All in all this was a great, fun, campy, suspenseful, and romantic series.

I read this book in one day quite simply because it was excellent. I loved how dark and dangerous Thomas was and how broken but strong Noelle was. She was determined to live her life to the fullest even with the nightmares still plaguing her. There were a couple of minor issues for me (the repetition of how dangerous Thomas was being one), but none that stopped me from enjoying the book. No book is perfect, but this one comes pretty close.

Good story. Strong characters. Suspenseful.Noelle is a FBI profiler loaned out to the EOD. Fifteen years ago she was kidnapped but doesn't remember what happened. Thomas is an agent for EOD and partnered with Noelle to find a serial killer. But secrets are about to be exposed and a surprise ending that even I didn't expect.
